Live video marketing is being used by all sorts of companies and brands to enhance their online presence. But if you go back to the basic purpose of a live video stream, it is meant to generate buzz about an event. Therefore, if your job is literally to create and promote events, Facebook Live is an invaluable way to get the word out.
What is Facebook Live?
Launched in 2016, Facebook Live is a feature that enables smartphone (or tablet) users to broadcast real-time videos through their Facebook account. All it takes is tapping an icon and you immediately “go live,” at which point any Facebook users who follow you can “tune in” to your broadcast.
Why should I use Facebook Live to promote my event?
Live video streaming is a way to share the in-person experience of your event with people who couldn’t or didn’t attend your event, with the goal of persuading them to attend next year. People who were on the fence can “sample” the event without a time or monetary commitment, and you might even attract people who would never have considered attending otherwise. Plus, you can further engage attendees who are registered for or even already physically present at your event by offering them behind-the-scenes glimpses of how the event is put together.
How do I get started?
Let your followers know in advance that you will be streaming so that they can plan to watch. Make several announcements on various platforms—including, of course, Facebook—leading up to the event. Then, determine what you’ll use to record and broadcast the stream, both in terms of hardware and software. You certainly don’t need a full video production crew, but you can purchase phone attachments (like a stabilizer or an external microphone) and video editing software to lend your videos a more professional quality. Finally, draft a description of each video you plan to record ahead of time. Don’t skip this! You’ll lose potential audience members if you don’t tell them what they can expect when watching your video.
If you decide to use Facebook Live to promote your event, we’d love to see what you’re doing! Contact us with the date and time of your stream so we can tune in.
